Tom loves proving you can do anything with a B.A. in English. After he graduated with summa honors from Amherst College, he became a New York City teaching fellow and taught English language arts to high school students. He also taught courses in U.S. history, biology, earth science, and chemistry. Tom is currently a Math for America fellow and helps run a teacher coaching program in his public school. Despite all the science and math, he still has a soft spot in his heart for poetry.

Tom has long possessed an understanding of the power of standardized tests in propelling one’s education and career. In high school, he earned a score of 5 on seven different AP exams. Since then, he has earned a 99th-percentile score on the GRE, GMAT, and SAT. He’s also helped hundreds of students do better than they thought possible on these standardized tests. At this point, he’s even coached some of his students to get scores higher than his own, which is pretty dang awesome, according to Tom.

When he’s not being a total nerd, Tom can be found cycling, running, climbing, or otherwise seeking an escape from the city life. Rumor has it, he was once an avid mountain unicyclist. Ask him about it.
