BIO

James Brock spent three years teaching Algebra 2 and Calculus in inner-city Los Angeles. After leaving the classroom for grad school, he still felt pulled to teaching and standardized tests, so he took the GMAT and scored a 780.

This allowed him to add GMAT to his teaching repertoire, which already included various sports and chess in addition to experience tutoring all levels of mathematics. Along with a B.A. in mathematics from Claremont McKenna College and a teaching credential, James has a Master of Divinity from Covenant Seminary, where he learned to closely read Greek and Hebrew and found that training remarkably helpful on Sentence Correction!

After growing up in Washington D.C., college and teaching in Los Angeles, grad school in St. Louis, and five years as a pastor of family ministry in Atlanta, James moved to Virginia Beach in the fall of 2017 to “plant” and pastor a brand-new church there. He and his wife have five sons and when not teaching or pastoring, he enjoys board games and basketball.
